A patient with an active inhibitor generally falls under the following circumstances:
  • The titer level (measured in Bethesda Units, or BUs) is greater than zero
  • Patient is dependent on by-passing clotting factor to control bleeding episodes
  • Patient has attempted, or is currently attempting ITT (Immune Tolerance Therapy), but has not yet successfully tolerized.  Tolerized, meaning the titer level remains above zero.
